Nouakchott city (June 27, 2016) Mauritania is hosting the Arab Summit in the biggest tent it ever made to overcome the issue of logistic challenges. It is acceptable for the Arab nomads to stay in tents for 48 hours . They used to be comfortable in their countryside villages or hideouts rather than any international first class luxury residence.
Even in the 21st century, Mauritanian
tents are still the ultimate solution when it comes to hosting VIP arrivals.
(May 3, 2016), President Mohamed Abdel Aziz told a political rally in in the capital of Mauritanian East Nema city that his Government is keen to organize the coming Arab Summit even under tents, if there is no available, adequate logistical infrastructures.
Politically, Mauritania has a
long history with the use of the tents, the only temporary shelters in the hot
dry desert.
In 1960, the first ceremony of National Independence was organized under the rural tents.
The main programs of
Presidential and Municipal Electoral campaigns were promoted in the desert
tents. The last Presidential Election of 2013 was not an exception. Commercially,
Mauritania Telecom operating companies had used the handmade traditional tents
as temporary marketing agencies to sell
subscriptions, SIM cards and credits. Socially, local tribal gatherings, formal
meetings, and informal receptions are all organized under the tents as well.
The tents are the best flexible infrastructure to use rapidly. They have been
widely adopted and popularly exploited by desert communities. Such tents have
witnessed Mauritania’s happiest history and saddest occasions.
Presently, it is still vivid in the popular
mind that most of Mauritania’s modern elite official leaders were born and
raised in the desert tents that are open to all the wind directions. With a free
mind in the open air, the desert populations have lived happily.
In fact, some people are nostalgic
about the past traditional life of the older generations. Mauritanians would love
to revive that romantic experience by celebrating any significant events in the
desert rural tents.
